Crew Escapes Burning, Derailed Train in Maine in "Absolute Miracle"
A train derailment in Somerset County, Maine, caused flames and smoke above Moosehead Lake. The three crew members miraculously escaped serious injury. The derailment may have been caused by a build-up of melting ice and debris that washed out part of the railroad track. No hazardous material left the tracks, but flammable wire and ethanol were noticed in sealed containers in cars left upright. Canadian Pacific Railway's response was applauded, and they continue to conduct a full assessment of the situation.
