FTC Faces Industry Pushback on Making Online Service Cancellation Easier
Cable companies and advertisers are pushing back against a proposed "click-to-cancel" regulation by the FTC, arguing that it would make it harder to retain customers and could lead to unintended consequences for consumers. The proposed rule aims to make it as easy to cancel a subscription as it is to sign up, and requires sellers to obtain customer consent before pitching additional offers when a consumer tries to cancel. The Interactive Advertising Bureau also expressed concerns, stating that the rule would burden businesses and restrict innovation without corresponding benefits.
