"Chicago Faces Influx of Migrant Buses, Explores Shelter Solutions"
Chicago has seen a record 27 buses carrying migrants arrive in less than a week, with each bus typically carrying about 50 people. This influx has resulted in over 2,000 migrants sleeping in police station lobbies and O'Hare International Airport, while around 9,200 people are living in city-run shelters. The rise in arrivals has led to speculation that it is an effort to put pressure on the city ahead of the Democratic National Convention, but officials have dismissed this idea. Mayor Brandon Johnson's administration has signed a $29 million contract with GardaWorld Federal Services to provide temporary housing for asylum seekers, despite criticism of the firm's history. The city is also considering the use of tent camps and additional temporary shelters to address the situation.
