British Cycling Implements Ban on Transgender Women in Female Events

British Cycling has announced that transgender females will not be allowed to compete against biological women due to a clear performance advantage for individuals who go through puberty as a male. Transgender men who have not yet begun hormone therapy will be able to compete in the female category, while the current men's category will be consolidated into an "open" category. The new policy is the result of a nine-month review that included a consultation process with riders and stakeholders, and a study of available medical research. The policy will go into effect before the end of this year.

British Cycling introduces new rules for transgender participation in women-only events.

British Cycling will introduce an "open category" alongside a women's category for its competitive events, banning transgender women from competing in women's-only races. The new policy means that transgender women will only be allowed to compete in the open category, which will replace the existing men's category. The changes only apply to races not under the purview of the UCI, including the Women's Tour and the RideLondon Classique. British Cycling will allow transgender and non-binary people to take part in its non-competitive events.
