"Mother's Help Enables Convicted Sex Offender's Prison Escape"
A convicted sex offender, Robert Yancy Jr., escaped from the Clemens Unit in Brazoria with the help of his mother, a former TDCJ correctional officer, who provided him with her old work badge. Yancy presented the badge as identification and walked out of the unit unnoticed. He was later captured in Matagorda County. Yancy's mother and her boyfriend were also arrested in connection with the escape. Yancy is serving a life sentence without parole for continuous sexual abuse of a child. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice is investigating security processes to prevent future escapes.
