University of Memphis basketball player Jamirah Shutes has been charged with assault by the Bowling Green State University Police Department after striking Bowling Green State University basketball player Elissa Brett in the face with a closed fist during the post-game handshake line following Bowling Green's 73-60 win in the Women's National Invitation Tournament. Brett suffered swelling in her right eye due to the strike. The incident is under investigation and it is unclear if Shutes has retained legal representation.
