"Competency for Trial Confirmed for Colorado Man Accused of 2021 Supermarket Massacre"
Prosecutors in Colorado have announced that Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, the man charged with killing 10 people at a Boulder supermarket in 2021, is mentally competent to proceed with trial. Experts at the state mental hospital determined that Alissa's consistent medication regimen, including a new unidentified drug, has played a significant role in maintaining his competency. However, they recommend that he continue with ongoing psychiatric care and medications. Prosecutors have requested that Alissa remain at the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo, as the jail in Boulder cannot provide the same level of care. The court must still accept the hospital's conclusion for criminal proceedings to resume. Alissa is charged with murder and multiple attempted murder counts and has not yet entered a plea. A hearing to discuss the case's status is scheduled for Tuesday.
