iPhone Crash Detection: The Dancing Dilemma at Bonnaroo
The recent false 911 calls at the Bonaroo festival in Tennessee, initially thought to be triggered by Apple's Crash Detection feature, were likely not caused by wild dancing. Apple's Crash Detection is designed to detect severe car crashes, and the force generated by dancing is unlikely to trigger it. The real culprit may be accidental activation of the SOS feature on iPhones, where holding the side button and volume buttons can initiate a call to emergency services. Concertgoers may not have noticed the alerts or inadvertently dialed 911 while holding their phones during the event. Disabling the automatic emergency call feature is not recommended, as it is unlikely to be the cause and may lead to forgetting to reenable it later.
