Michigan State University's Accreditation at Risk Due to Board Chair's Actions

The head of accreditation at Michigan State University (MSU) has stated that the school's accreditation is at risk due to the actions of board chair Rema Vassar. Allegations include Vassar interfering in the administration's business, using a donor's private jet, and appearing in an ad for a former trustee's wealth management firm. Losing accreditation would jeopardize MSU's federal funding and ability to offer financial aid. The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) is closely monitoring the situation and requires changes to ensure compliance. Vassar admitted to the private jet travel but did not address the interference allegations directly.

Trustee Demands Removal of Board Chair Vassar for Bullying and Plotting

Michigan State University (MSU) trustee Brianna Scott has called for the removal of board chair Dianne Byrum Vassar, accusing her of bullying and plotting harmful consequences. Scott's letter alleges that Vassar interfered with the administration, bullied the interim president, flew on donors' private jets, meddled in a lawsuit settlement, attempted to cover up a shooting incident, violated ethics policies, and refused to cooperate in an investigation. Scott has asked Vassar to resign, and if she doesn't, Scott calls on the other trustees to vote for her removal or refer the matter to Governor Gretchen Whitmer for possible impeachment.

Illumina CEO survives Carl Icahn proxy battle, but chairman ousted.

Activist investor Carl Icahn has succeeded in ousting Illumina's board chair, John Thompson, but failed to remove CEO Francis deSouza in a two-month proxy battle. Shareholders also voted to install one of Icahn's three board nominees, Andrew Teno. Icahn had urged shareholders to vote off deSouza and Thompson from the nine-member board. The vote is a blow to Illumina, which has claimed Icahn's three nominees lack "relevant skills and experience" and would "threaten the progress" of the biotech company's core DNA sequencing business.
