A tuned BMW M3 Competition with 1,039 hp challenged the Tesla Model S Plaid in drag races, winning the first race and crossing the half-mile finish line ahead of the Model S, but ultimately losing the second and third races. The BMW redeemed itself in a rolling race as the Tesla hit its speed limiter, but the EV won the brake test.
The Ferrari SF90 Stradale, a plug-in hybrid supercar with nearly 1,000 horsepower, won all three races against a tuned BMW M3 sedan in a recent drag race video. The SF90 uses a twin-turbocharged V8 engine with three electric motors and can hit 60 mph in 2.5 seconds. It also won the brake test, stopping at a shorter distance than the BMW. The hybrid setup offers a pure-electric driving mode with a range of up to 16 miles. A hotter version of the SF90 with major aerodynamic upgrades is expected to debut later this year.
Carwow conducted a drag race featuring each generation of the BMW M3 to see how the improvements in figures translated onto the tarmac. The race included the E30, E36, E46, E92, and the latest G80. The latest G80 BMW M3 was the heaviest car among the group, weighing 3,814 lbs (1,730 kg), but had the most powerful engine, producing 503 hp and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque in the Competition guise.
