Final Fantasy 16 was almost shipped on two PS5 Blu-ray discs due to its large file size, but the developer was able to compress the game in the last six months and fit it onto a single disc, saving manufacturing costs. A small day one patch of around 300MB will still be required.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, set to launch in early 2024, will be the largest PlayStation 5 game of all time and will be released on two 100GB Blu-Ray discs. This allows for the game to be playable right out of the box without the need for extensive downloads, and also showcases the capabilities of the PlayStation 5's hardware. The physical copies of the game will contain game files, making it accessible locally and saving it from oblivion.
