Horace Ové, the pioneering Black British filmmaker known for directing "Pressure" (1976), the first full-length Black British film, has passed away at the age of 86. Ové's work chronicled the Black Power movement and counterculture in London during the 1960s and 1970s, and he pushed boundaries in portraying a multicultural Britain. His films have inspired a generation of Black British filmmakers and artists. A major retrospective season of Ové's work titled "Power to the People: Horace Ové's Radical Vision" is scheduled, and a restored version of "Pressure" will premiere at film festivals before its wide release. The U.K.'s Film and TV Charity has also established the Horace Ové Grant to support underrepresented individuals in the industry.
