Instagram Users in Illinois Eligible for Payment in $68M Lawsuit

Instagram users in Illinois have the opportunity to receive a portion of a $68 million settlement in a class-action lawsuit related to violations of Illinois' Biometric Information Privacy Act. The act prohibits companies from collecting and storing biometric information. Illinois residents who used Instagram between August 10, 2015, and August 16, 2023, can file a claim by September 27, 2023. Payments will be made after final approval and resolution of any appeals. Similar payouts have been made by Facebook and other platforms.
