Heavy lake-effect snow is forecast for northwest Indiana Wednesday and Thursday, with a Winter Storm Warning in effect for La Porte County, IN and Berrien County, MI (7am Wed–1pm Thu ET). Porter County has a Winter Weather Advisory (8am Wed–4am Thu). Expected totals: Porter 2–5 inches, La Porte 3–8 inches, and up to 12 inches in parts of Berrien, with snow tapering Thursday as temperatures fall throughout the week.

This comes shortly after a false bomb threat led to a lockdown at Ballard Elementary School just three days prior. Authorities are working to gather more details about the current threat.
A 34-year-old man from Benton Harbor, Michigan, died after leading police on a chase that ended in a crash in St. Joseph. The chase began when the driver swerved in front of a police cruiser and sped away. After losing sight of the vehicle on I-94, a deputy spotted it again on Lakeshore Drive. The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed, resulting in his ejection and death at the scene. The man's identity has not been released.
The suspect in the murder of his stepmother on Father's Day, 60-year-old David Lee Mabry, has died in the Berrien County jail. He was found unresponsive in his cell and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. Michigan State Police are investigating his death. Mabry had been charged with open murder and felony firearm in the death of his stepmother. Newly obtained court documents reveal that Mabry shot his stepmother in the head after an argument, and then fled the scene.
David Mabry, a man charged with murder and a weapons offense for a shooting in Baroda Township, has died while in jail. Mabry was found unresponsive in his cell, and there were reportedly no signs of trauma. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed. Mabry allegedly shot a 57-year-old woman on her patio before being disarmed by her husband and later arrested.
