Saying Goodbye to Broadway's Longest-Running Show: The Phantom of the Opera
Laird Mackintosh will play the titular role in the final Broadway performance of Phantom of the Opera on April 16, as principal Phantom Ben Crawford is sidelined due to a bacterial infection. The musical, which resumed performances in October 2021 following the pandemic, will end its 35-year run at the Majestic Theatre. The production has been the largest single generator of income and jobs in Broadway and U.S. theatrical history, grossing $1.3 billion and employing an estimated 6,500 people. Producer Cameron Mackintosh has said the show will return to Broadway in the future.
