Saudi Arabia and Iran agree to resume diplomatic relations and reopen embassies.
Saudi Arabia and Iran have agreed to reopen embassies and consulates in their respective countries during a meeting in Beijing, marking the highest-level gathering of officials from the two nations in more than seven years. The two sides also discussed ways to expand cooperation, including the resumption of flights and mutual trips from official delegations and the private sector. The resumption of relations has been seen as a diplomatic victory for China in a region traditionally considered part of the US' sphere of influence.
