Automattic Inc., the company behind WordPress.com, has acquired the messaging app Beeper, which was at the center of a recent dispute with Apple Inc. The deal includes absorbing Beeper's 27 employees, with co-founder Eric Migicovsky set to become Automattic’s head of messaging.
Beepberry is a portable e-paper computer designed by Eric Migicovsky, co-founder of Beeper, that resembles the classic Blackberry with a high-contrast and high-resolution display. Equipped with a tactile keyboard and mini touchpad, it can run Raspberry Pi Zero W or any other compatible single-board computers. Beepberry is a hackable handheld cyberdeck that can run any Linux application that runs on the Pi and can expand connectivity via USB or GPIO ports. It is a mini chum to Eric Migicovsky’s Beeper app, which integrates all chat services into a single app, allowing users to keep track of all incoming messages.
