The Unfortunate Role of Snape in Harry Potter's Success

In the Harry Potter series, Severus Snape's failure to actively ensure that Harry Potter learns he is a Horcrux almost leads to the downfall of Magical Britain. If Harry had not coincidentally arrived at the Shrieking Shack in time to receive Snape's memories, he would have never known the truth and would have ultimately lost the battle against Voldemort. Snape's lack of effort in finding Harry and revealing the truth is seen as irresponsible and lazy, potentially dooming the world.
