The Back Tap feature on iPhones with an A11 Bionic or newer chip allows users to assign actions to double or triple taps on the back of their device. The feature can be found in the Accessibility menu and can be used to perform basic system actions, accessibility features, scroll gestures, and custom shortcuts. The latest iOS 16 software offers more actions to choose from, including Camera, Flashlight, Lock Rotation, and Color Filters.
iPhone users can turn on their torch, mute, take a screenshot, and perform other functions by double-tapping the back of their phone, thanks to a little-known feature called Back Tap. The feature can be found in the Accessibility settings and allows users to select two functions to perform with a double or triple tap. However, it may take some practice to get the hang of using it.
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models are rumored to feature a customizable Action button that will replace the Ring/Silent switch. The Action button will presumably be customizable like it is on the Apple Watch Ultra, allowing users to map the button to various system functions for convenient access. The mute switch will be replaced with a button on iPhone 15 Pro models, and both buttons are expected to have a solid-state design. These changes are only rumored for the Pro models, with the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models still expected to have a mute switch and two volume buttons.
