WhatsApp Enhances Security with New Features and Key Transparency.
WhatsApp's upcoming security feature, Account Protect, may require users to authorize their old phone to allow their account to be moved to a new one. The feature applies to both iPhones and Android smartphones and is intended to alert users to an unauthorized attempt to move their account to another device. Two additional security features, Automatic Security Codes and Device Verification, are also coming to make it easier to double-check that you haven't been fooled into chatting with an attacker impersonating one of your contacts and prevent a rogue app from using your WhatsApp account in the background. The company is also reminding people to use two existing security features, two-step verification and end-to-end encrypted backups.
