Electric SUVs Take Center Stage in China's Auto Market.

Honda has unveiled two pre-production prototypes and one concept model of battery-electric SUVs at Auto Shanghai 2023, which will go on sale in China in early 2024 as part of the e:N Series EV models. The e:N SUV Concept will be the first to adopt the e:N Architecture W EV-dedicated platform, with the production model previewed by this concept to become the prologue of the new-generation EV models for Honda e:N Series. Honda aims to launch 10 EV models in China by 2027 and have EVs represent 100% of its automobile sales in the country by 2035.

Nissan has unveiled the all-electric Arizon Concept SUV at Auto Shanghai 2023, designed for the diverse mobility needs of drivers in China. The concept SUV is built on the CMF-EV platform and features a muscular exterior design with a tech-laden cabin that's designed to be human-centric. The Arizon concept has a new virtual personal assistant named Eporo that can interact with passengers in a human-like manner and provide accurate responses utilizing time, weather and other data. While it's unclear if the Arizon will go into production, it could influence Nissan's future EV models for the Chinese market.

Xpeng's new EV platform aims to cut costs and compete with Tesla in China.

Chinese EV maker XPeng has unveiled its Smart Electric Platform Architecture (SEPA) 2.0, which will reduce the cost of development and manufacturing for future models. The platform will support a range of vehicle types and is expected to shorten the R&D cycle for future models by 20%. BMW has teased the XM 50e, an entry-level version of its super SUV, ahead of its launch at Auto Shanghai 2023. The model is expected to feature a six-cylinder inline engine with hybrid support, and is estimated to have a range of 47-52 miles on purely electric energy. Rumors suggest it will share its powertrain with the M760e, which has a combined output of 563 hp and 591 lb-ft of torque. The XM 50e is positioned as the most affordable version of the XM and is finished in a BMW Individual yellow color with black contrasting paint.

Introducing the 2024 BMW XM Label Red: The Most Powerful BMW Yet.

BMW has unveiled the XM Label Red, its most powerful production model ever, ahead of its public debut at Auto Shanghai 2023. The large SUV boasts a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine with an electric motor, producing 738 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. It can reach 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph, or 175 mph with the M Driver's Package. The XM Label Red features Toronto Red accents on the exterior, a two-tone leather interior, and a carbon fiber trim strip. Production will begin in August at the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.
