Decorated Navy Veteran Thwarts Arson Attempt at MLK Jr's Birth Home
Laneisha Shantrice Henderson, a decorated US Navy veteran, has been charged with attempted arson and interfering with government property after she was caught on camera pouring a flammable liquid onto the porch and windows of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birth home. The historic wooden property, located near the King Center and Ebenezer Baptist Church, was saved from potential destruction by two tourists who intervened and off-duty NYPD officers who apprehended the suspect. The home, currently under renovation, is closed to visitors until 2025.
