"The Lazarus Heist: $14m Stolen in Record Time from ATMs Across Continents"

The Lazarus Group, a group of elite hackers believed to be directed by North Korea's military intelligence agency, pulled off an audacious bank heist in 2018, stealing nearly $14m from Cosmos Co-operative bank in India in just two hours. The hackers used a technique known as "jackpotting" to manipulate the bank's systems and allow ATM withdrawals from their accomplices around the world. The group has been accused of several other high-profile cyber-attacks, including the WannaCry ransomware attack and attempting to steal $1bn from Bangladesh's central bank. US authorities estimate that North Korea has up to 7,000 trained hackers and is using them to steal money to finance its weapons programme.
