The Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter responding to an active shooter in Flagstaff crashed, killing the pilot and a trooper who was a paramedic on board; officials have not released the victims’ names.
A child was killed and several people were seriously injured in two crashes involving 10 vehicles on US 60 in Tempe, Arizona. The first crash occurred when an SUV changed lanes, leading to a series of collisions involving seven other vehicles, including a loaded commercial dump truck. Subsequently, a pickup truck struck the median, rolled onto its side, and a second crash occurred when an SUV collided with a parked DPS patrol vehicle. The westbound lanes of US 60 were closed for cleanup, and troopers suspect impairment in the second crash.
Three people were killed and two others injured in a crash on Interstate 10 eastbound near Tonopah, Arizona. The accident occurred when a speeding SUV collided with a disabled pickup truck and two individuals standing outside the truck. The driver and a passenger in the SUV, as well as a passenger in the truck, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers in the SUV were airlifted to the hospital for their injuries. The eastbound lanes of I-10 were temporarily closed for investigation but have since reopened.
A vehicle chase in Phoenix ended with a woman being rescued from a canal after she drove into it near 35th Avenue and Durango Street. The woman managed to climb out of the canal on her own and was found to be under the influence. She was arrested for DUI, and law enforcement officials are investigating the incident.
At least one person has died in a multi-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on the northbound lanes of Loop 101 Price Freeway in Tempe, Arizona. The crash occurred on Saturday evening, and the road was closed for several hours as authorities investigated the incident.
