Notre-Dame's Renovation Culminates with Golden Rooster and Controversial Stained-Glass Panes
A new copper rooster has been hoisted back to the top of the spire of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing renovation efforts following the devastating fire in 2019. The old rooster, found nearly intact among the debris, will be displayed in a new Notre Dame museum. The new rooster, blessed by the Paris archbishop, contains religious relics and a parchment with the names of workers, donors, and patrons. French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged that the cathedral will be fully reconstructed and reopened within 12 months. The spire, reconstructed in identical fashion, will be waterproofed and the cathedral's furnishings and artwork will be brought back in before its reopening in December 2024.
