Seamless Integration: ChromeOS 115 Unites Chromebooks and Android Phones

Google has released ChromeOS 115, bringing major features such as App Streaming, which allows users to use apps from their Android phones on their Chromebooks. The update also introduces the ability to save PDF signatures for future use and a new Shortcut app for easy access to keyboard shortcuts. However, there are limitations, as Phone Hub needs to be enabled and specific phone models running Android 13 or newer are required. ChromeOS 115 is rolling out gradually to Chromebook and Chromebox users.

Google enables Android app streaming on select Chromebooks.

App Streaming, an extension of Phone Hub, is now available on Chromebooks with ChromeOS 114, allowing users to "stream" apps from their Android phones to their Chromebooks. However, it is currently limited to a handful of Android phones, including Pixel 4A and higher, Xiaomi 12T, 12T Pro, 13, and 13 Pro. Both devices must share the same Wi-Fi network and be close to each other. This is part of Google's effort to make devices work better together.

Google brings Android app streaming to select Chromebooks.

Google has officially announced that Chromebooks can now stream apps from Android phones, allowing users to complete quick tasks such as replying to a conversation, checking on the status of a rideshare or delivery, and editing their shopping list. The feature is available on Android 13+ for the Pixel 4a and newer, as well as select Xiaomi devices. Both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network and physically close to one another. App streaming is currently available on the ChromeOS beta channel.

Google's Cross-Device Services enables app streaming between Android phones and Chromebooks.

Google has released "Cross-Device Services" on the Play Store, which will allow users to access any app on their Android phone using a Chromebook. The app will enable users to reply to messages, check the status of a rideshare, or edit their shopping list from their Chromebook without having to switch devices. The feature set is much wider than the initial messaging announcement, with every app on the phone seemingly accessible. The update is currently available on Pixel phones, and app streaming is not yet live on Chromebooks.
