The Hidden Part of King Charles' Coronation

Viewers won’t be able to see the most sacred part of King Charles’ coronation, the anointing, which is regarded as a moment between the Sovereign and God, with a screen or canopy in place given the sanctity of the Anointing. During Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953, she was covered by a canopy made of gold. The anointing screen will be moved around Charles, who will be seated in the coronation chair during this portion of the Westminster Abbey ceremony. The Dean of Westminster will pour a special holy oil onto the coronation spoon, and Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, will use the oil to anoint Charles on his hands, chest and head, out of sight from the in-person guests and those watching on TV.

Pope Francis Leads Holy Week Celebrations at Vatican

He thanked priests for their service, which often goes unrecognized, and reflected on the Holy Spirit as the giver of life. The Pope warned against the dangers of compromise, surrogates, and discouragement, and urged priests to preserve their anointing by allowing the Spirit to act within them. He also stressed the importance of harmony and gratitude in the priesthood.
