Former NYC Transit President Andy Byford to Lead Amtrak's High-Speed Program
Andy Byford, the former New York City subway chief known as "Train Daddy," has been appointed as Amtrak's senior vice president for high-speed rail development. Byford, who left his position as London's commissioner of transport in September, will face familiar challenges as Amtrak's ridership plummeted during the pandemic and has yet to fully recover. However, Amtrak is set to receive $22 billion from President Biden's $1 trillion infrastructure package, some of which will go to new trains.
