A Valve open-source developer fixed Linux boot/display issues on aging AMD GPUs (Sea Islands/GCN 1.1) by disabling memory clock dynamic power management and forcing the highest memory clock when DPM is off, a move that could help iMacs with Radeon R9 M380 and similar GPUs work better under the AMDGPU driver; upstream review is expected soon.
Linux 6.19 is the final update of its current kernel cycle, adding AMDGPU support for older GCN 1.0/1.1 GPUs (HD 7000 series), Vulkan via RADV, improved power management, and HDR through the DRM Color Pipeline, among other driver updates. Linus Torvalds also teased the next kernel as 7.0, which could bring further AMD GPU and hardware-support improvements. Linux 6.19-rc7 adds a kernel continuity plan in case the main repo becomes unavailable, and includes several notable fixes: an AMDGPU revert, disabling the NEXT_BUDDY scheduler due to performance regressions, a long-standing page-fault handling correction, an ATA power-management regression fix, and expanded ASUS Armoury driver support, with Linus noting rc8 will follow the holiday period and the 6.19 stable release is expected around February 8 after a feature overview.
New patches for the open-source AMD Linux graphics driver enable HDMI VRR and Auto Low Latency Mode for gaming, adding HDMI gaming features (VRR, ALM), PCON changes, and improved VRR detection. The patches by Tomasz Pakuła use publicly known information and testing to work around HDMI Forum constraints, with the goal of upstreaming into the AMDGPU kernel.

AMD has submitted a set of fixes-oriented AMDGPU/AMDKFD kernel driver updates for the upcoming Linux 6.4 merge window, which includes minor feature updates such as GFX943 updates, S4 fixes for AMD APUs, DisplayPort fixes, RAS fixes, and various other fixes. The pull also includes FPO/FAMS work to improve display power savings, which is said to help reduce display power use with the latest RDNA3 graphics processors.
