Major League Baseball has implemented a month-long winter recovery period during which team officials are prohibited from monitoring or collecting data on amateur players to reduce injury risks and promote rest, following concerns over year-round high-effort training and its link to arm injuries among young athletes.
The MLB Draft League, a summer league for Draft-eligible players, provides an opportunity for amateur and professional players to improve their Draft stock and continue their development. The league features six teams comprised of former Minor League affiliates. In the 2023 MLB Draft, several players from the Draft League were selected within the first five rounds. The league aims to provide a safe and fun environment for high school and college-aged players to evaluate their interest in pursuing baseball professionally.
