Greg Brown, Cake's Founding Guitarist and The Distance Writer, Dies
Greg Brown, the founding guitarist of Cake who wrote the band's 1996 hit “The Distance,” has died after a brief illness. Brown contributed to Cake’s first two albums, Motorcade of Generosity (1994) and Fashion Nugget (1996), left the band after the tour, pursued other projects (Deathray and Homie), and later rejoined Cake for a track on Showroom of Compassion (2011). The band announced his passing on social media with a tribute, noting his essential role in the band’s early sound and development.
