Paramore Stands in Solidarity with Allison Russell, Rejects Tennessee State Honor
Tennessee state Rep. Justin Jones brought resolutions to honor Paramore and Allison Russell for their Grammy wins, but Rep. Jeremy Faison objected to Russell's resolution, prompting accusations of racism. Paramore rejected an honor from the Tennessee House until Russell is recognized, with lead singer Hayley Williams calling out the "blatant racism" of state leadership. Russell, a folk musician and activist, has been critical of Tennessee's Republican lawmakers and organized a benefit concert in response to legislation she deemed as "legislative terrorism." Jones, who introduced the resolutions, attempted to address the issue on the House floor during Black History Month, but was interrupted and cut off by the House Speaker.
