"Coppola's 'Megalopolis' Set for Cannes Premiere Amid Controversy"
Francis Ford Coppola's long-awaited passion project "Megalopolis" is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, featuring an all-star cast including Shia LaBeouf, Adam Driver, and Forest Whitaker. The film, which Coppola wrote in the 1980s and invested over $100 million of his own money into, will debut in a gala slot on May 17. The plot, set in an alternate reality version of New York City dubbed "New Rome," revolves around the fate of Rome haunting a modern world unable to solve its own social problems. Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Fremaux expressed his excitement to welcome Coppola back, recognizing him as an independent artist who built the legend of the festival.
