Massachusetts switches E-ZPass to RFID stickers to cut costs
Massachusetts is phasing out hard plastic E-ZPass transponders in favor of windshield RFID stickers to cut tolling costs. Existing users aren’t required to act; new accounts or replacements will receive a free sticker that’s battery-free. Sticker rollout began March 1 across states, with New Jersey planning tests in May. The change saves about $1.38 million per year and eliminates the $20 transponder replacement fee.
