Alabama Labor Department Files Complaint Against Child's Lemonade Stand
An eight-year-old boy's lemonade stand in Hueytown, Alabama, caught the attention of the Alabama Department of Labor after his mother offered an apprenticeship program. The lemonade stand, called "Cam's Lemonade," was initially started as a lesson on the value of money and hard work. However, when the stand advertised the apprenticeship program, it received a complaint, resulting in the cancellation of the event. The Department of Labor clarified that they do not regulate lemonade stands but stated that children under 14 cannot work for a for-profit business. Despite the setback, the lemonade stand has gained more business as a result.
