"Six Arrested in $22M Toronto Airport Gold Heist, Including Airline Worker"
Six people have been arrested in connection with the $22 million gold heist at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, with police alleging it was an "inside job" involving former Air Canada employees. The theft, which occurred in April 2023, saw a cargo container carrying gold bars and foreign currency stolen using fake paperwork. The investigation, dubbed "Project 24Karat," involved the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and authorities believe the stolen gold and cash were intended to finance firearms trafficking into Canada. Only a fraction of the stolen gold and cash has been recovered, with police finding five crudely melted gold bangles worth about $90,000.
