"Air Force Introduces Cold-Weather Incentive Pay for North Dakota Bases"

The Department of the Air Force has approved cold weather pay for airmen and Guardians stationed at seven U.S. bases with extreme cold conditions, effective April 1. The new lump-sum payment is aimed at incentivizing service members to serve at least a yearlong tour in locations where temperatures can drop 20 degrees below zero. The pay ranges from $500 to $5,000 depending on location and dependents, and is intended to ease the financial burden of purchasing cold weather essentials. The announcement comes more than a year after the passage of the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act, and is part of the Air Force's efforts to take care of service members and their families stationed at critical installations in extreme cold-weather environments.

The award process has faced delays and criticism, and Minihan aims to ensure that all deserving units and individuals are recognized for their contributions.

"Air Force Overhauls Training Programs for Special Ops Jobs and NCOs"

The Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) is conducting a review of its training methods for airmen across all career fields, aiming to adapt to a new era of combat and prepare for future challenges. The review, led by AFSOC Commander Lt. Gen. Tony Bauernfeind, will result in changes to the initial qualification and advanced training phases. The first change proposed is the removal of combat dive training from the initial training pipeline for special tactics, combat control, and special reconnaissance officers. The Air Force believes that these skills may no longer be relevant in future combat environments. Instead, combat diving may become a special qualification earned later in an airman's career if needed. The review reflects AFSOC's efforts to ensure that airmen receive training that is relevant to the evolving combat landscape.
