China's 'Golden Week' Holiday Travel Surpasses Pre-Pandemic Levels
China is expecting a surge in travel during the upcoming "golden week" holiday, with train and plane ticket sales already surpassing pre-pandemic figures. China Railway reported a record-breaking 22.9 million train tickets sold in a single day, and predicts around 190 million railway trips during the 12-day travel rush. Airline tickets are also selling briskly, with more than 21 million people expected to travel by air. Major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou are expected to be busy transport hubs, while lesser-known destinations are also attracting tourists. Interest in overseas travel has also increased as outbound restrictions have been relaxed.
