Honda is recalling over 750,000 vehicles in the U.S. to replace a faulty sensor that could cause the front passenger air bags to inflate unintentionally, potentially harming smaller adults or children in a crash. The recall affects various models from 2020 through 2022, and impacted owners will be notified starting March 18. This follows previous recalls by Honda and Toyota related to air bag and fuel pump issues.
Toyota is recalling one million vehicles, including models such as the Avalon, Camry, Highlander, RAV4, Sienna, and Corolla, due to a possible defect that may prevent air bags from deploying in the event of a crash. The issue is related to sensors in the front passenger seat that may not have been manufactured properly, potentially causing the air bag to not deploy correctly. Toyota dealerships will inspect and replace the sensors if necessary, free of charge. Affected owners will be notified starting in February.
BMW issued a "Do Not Drive" warning for 90,000 vehicles built from 2000 to 2006 due to problems with Takata air bags, while Ford recalled over 230,000 Rangers built from 2004 to 2006 for incorrectly installed replacement air bags. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urged consumers to check whether their vehicles were covered, emphasizing the "dire" risk to drivers of the affected BMWs. Tens of millions of vehicles are already covered by an ongoing recall involving the risk of exploding Takata air bags, and additional problems with its air bags continue to be discovered.
