Rev. Steve Pieters, Iconic HIV/AIDS Advocate, Passes Away at 70
Steve Pieters, a prominent AIDS advocate and longtime HIV survivor, has passed away at the age of 70. Pieters gained national recognition following his groundbreaking 1985 interview with televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker, which depicted a sympathetic portrayal of a gay man with AIDS. He became the first patient in an anti-viral drug trial to treat HIV and his cancers went into remission. Pieters' advocacy and story of recovery from AIDS have inspired many, and he will be remembered for his contributions to the LGBTQ+ community and HIV/AIDS awareness.
