"Reconciliation and Revitalization: Stories of Amends and Renewal in Africatown"
Descendants of Alabama slave owner Timothy Meaher, who financed the voyage of the Clotilda slave ship, have finally met with descendants of the enslaved Africans brought to the U.S. on the ship, after years of refusal. The Meaher family, now under new leadership, is exploring ways to make amends. The meeting, which lasted two hours, focused on reconciliation rather than reparations. The Clotilda descendants hope this meeting can serve as a model for similar conversations across the nation.
