Single Dad Nurtures Newborn Daughter After Tragic Loss
Edgar Patton, a single father from Chattanooga, Tennessee, is raising his newborn daughter alone after his wife, Jasmine Patton, died due to pregnancy complications. Jasmine, who had struggled with infertility, was concerned about the high maternal mortality rates that disproportionately affect Black women. She experienced a difficult pregnancy with symptoms like extreme morning sickness and fatigue. Despite expressing her concerns to her doctor, she was told it was normal. Jasmine's health deteriorated rapidly after giving birth via emergency C-section, and she passed away two days later from acute fatty liver of pregnancy. Edgar is sharing their story to encourage pregnant women to listen to their bodies and seek multiple opinions. He plans to keep his wife's memory alive for their daughter, Emery.
