"2024 Oscars: Diverse Nominees Make History and Break Barriers"
Seven out of the 20 acting Oscar nominees this year are people of color, all of whom are first-time nominees. This matches last year's diversity in acting nominees but is down from the nine nominees of color in 2020. Notably, the Best Supporting Actress category is the most diverse, with three diverse nominees. Additionally, this year's nominations include historic firsts, such as Lily Gladstone becoming the first Native American nominated for Best Actress and Colman Domingo becoming the first Afro Latino nominated in the Best Actor category. The nominations also feature a record-breaking number of women filmmakers and LGBTQ representation.
