This comes after her ACC/NCAA/American record in the individual 50 free event prelims. The UVA women's 200 free relay also set a new record with a time of 1:23.63, with Gretchen Walsh's sister, Alex Walsh, splitting 20.82.
Virginia's Gretchen Walsh set new NCAA and American records in the SCY 50 Free with a stunning 20.77 in prelims at the ACC Championships, breaking her own ACC Championship Record and the previous NCAA Record she shared with Maggie MacNeil. This marks her eighth time going under 21 seconds from a flat-start, the most by any women's swimmer in history, and she becomes the first woman to go under 20.8 in the 50 free multiple times. Walsh's exceptional performance also included a remarkable 200 free relay lead-off time and she will have the opportunity to further lower the record in the finals.
Gretchen Walsh led off Virginia's 800 freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.23, the third-fastest swim of all time, helping the team set an ACC record of 6:46.28. Her performance broke the team's own record and marked the fastest swim in six years, showcasing her exceptional talent in the pool.
