Windows 11 24H2 Drops Dolby Digital AC-3 Codec
Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 11 24H2 will no longer include the AC-3 codec, also known as Dolby Digital, in its native apps. This change means that users will not be able to play AC-3 encoded audio files using Windows' built-in media players, although third-party apps like VLC and MPV will still support the codec. Some devices may still come with the AC-3 codec if preinstalled by the manufacturer. This move aligns with the industry's shift away from the AC-3 codec, which debuted in the 90s.
