AARP Study Reveals Overlooked Over-50 Gamers Make Up 45% of Gaming Population.
A new study by AARP reveals that 52.4 million Americans aged 50 and above play video games at least once a month, with an average of 12 hours of gaming per month. However, almost 70% of these gamers feel that the games are not made with them in mind, and more than half do not see themselves reflected in the games they play or the marketing around them. While older gamers are playing more, they are spending less on games, suggesting that the industry needs to create games and features designed to onboard easily, play consistently, and stay challenged for this demographic.
