Two Oscar-nominated Warner Bros. titles, Sinners and One Battle After Another, will return to select IMAX 70mm screens during the Oscar run (and possibly beyond), underscoring the films’ prestige as 70mm showcases; Sinners leads with 16 nominations and One Battle After Another has 13 nominations.
Cinemark is expanding its IMAX and 70mm film projection systems in the US and South America, including three new 70mm screens, ahead of Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey,' which is the first film shot entirely in IMAX 70mm, set to release in July 2026.
A24 has announced the first 70mm screenings of "The Brutalist," directed by Brady Corbet and starring Adrien Brody, in New York City and Los Angeles starting December 19. The film, shot in VistaVision, is a three-hour epic about a Holocaust survivor and architect, and is considered a major Oscar contender. Attendees will receive collectible items, and the film will have a limited U.S. release on December 20, with a wider release in January.
Due to high demand, the film "Oppenheimer" has extended its run in Imax 70mm format at theaters nationwide until the end of August. Christopher Nolan, a strong advocate for the format, believes it offers the best viewing experience for the atomic bomb drama. Only a limited number of theaters have the capability to play films in Imax 70mm, making these screenings highly sought after. Despite the time-consuming and expensive process of creating Imax film prints, the success of "Oppenheimer" at the box office, with Imax accounting for a significant portion of its earnings, suggests that the format is worth the investment. Imax plans to continue showing "Oppenheimer" in the future, and other films like "Dune Part II" will also receive exclusive Imax runs.
