Russian President Vladimir Putin has initiated a shake-up in naval leadership, removing Admiral Viktor Sokolov from his post as commander of the Black Sea Fleet and replacing him with Vice-Admiral Sergey Pinchuk. The move comes as Russia approaches the third year of its invasion of Ukraine. The Black Sea Fleet has suffered heavy losses under Sokolov's command, including the destruction of a missile ship and a failed attempt to take the port city of Odesa. This leadership change coincides with the death of Putin's domestic rival, Alexei Navalny, who was found unconscious in a Russian prison.
