Tragedy Strikes as Migrant Boat Sinks off Tunisian Coast

At least two migrants have died and around 20 others are missing after their boat sank in the Mediterranean Sea between Tunisia and Italy. German aid group ResQship rescued 22 survivors and two deceased, taking them to the Italian island of Lampedusa. Thousands of migrants have reached Lampedusa in the last few days. Italy has seen over 28,000 migrants arrive since the start of the year, almost four times the number over the same period in 2021. The right-wing coalition government has cracked down on humanitarian rescue boats operating in the central Mediterranean north of Libya.
