Kenya's defense chief, General Francis Omondi Ogolla, and nine other military officers died in a helicopter crash in a remote area, with two officers surviving. President William Ruto announced the tragic accident and declared three days of mourning. The cause of the crash, which occurred in Elgeyo Marakwet county, is under investigation. Gen. Ogolla, a highly decorated officer, was visiting troops in the North Rift area when the helicopter crashed shortly after takeoff.
